Pet-friendly seaside cottages
No family likes to leave their dog behind when they go on holiday to the seaside. Book pet-friendly cottage accommodation and you dog can go with you.
Most beaches are not pet-friendly in high season for obvious reasons. Check what arrangements you can make for your dog at the holiday cottage, perhaps you can leave him in the garden or in kennels on the premises.
Many beaches allow dogs from October to the end of April which is unsuitable for a beach holiday but if the weather is pleasant, good for walks on the beach which your dog will enjoy. The only other things to watch out for are nesting season at coastal nature reserves, and lambing in farming areas - your dog will have to be kept on a lead
The most likely destination for dog friendly beaches is Scotland, especially if you go to secluded coves and quiet beaches. The only disadvantage might be the long distance to travel by car to get there. Families with children may appreciate the lack of things to buy and places to spend money.
It can be as much fun exploring a cave, collecting sea shells or fishing off the harbour as spending a day in the amusement park and probably more memorable.
Coastal paths and dogs
One way of enjoying the coast and a seaside holiday is to walk the coastal path for the views. Your dog will usually be permitted to accompany you on these walks which is pleasant for both of you. The scene above is of the coastal cliff walk near Beer in south Devon.
